I’ve been slack posting here because I don’t have a lot going on, but I did three weeks of planting trees, and I enjoyed it, even though my body did not. The first week was planting 500+ trees which would eventually become food for koalas at the local zoos, and the rest was revegetation along an eroding cliff. Here are some neat things I found whilst working:
The root ball on this one looks as if it wasn’t teased when out of the pot. We were told to leave the roots of the trees we were planting. They were young so it may not have mattered as much, but this tree was unable to stabilise itself properly, so it may have been ripped out by the wind. The colours on these trees are stunning.Anyone know what this fungi is? It was quite large, I don’t get to see a lot of fungi around d here, unfortunately. The creek after a lot of rainJack in the pulpit?Aroid leaves, Arum Lilly maybe? Saw quite a few Arum Lillies in the creek. Not the worst weed we have around the area, but it also seems to have no issues flowering in our cold winter, so not great. Oxalis is the worst, it covers any bare ground and prevents native seeds from growingTwist and turns of a young treeToo long in a tree guard, looks so silly after they’re taken offThe view at the end of the creek (there’s probably a proper name for it but I don’t know the word). I love where I live, and I love seeing more indigenous natives planted. Doing this type of work is my dream job. I feel so small and insignificant and feel powerless when it comes to the state of our ecosystem and environment. I want to do more, but I guess this is the best I can do for now.
